The Summer Institute is coming! In this annual three-week program for NYC public school teenagers, students train and develop work alongside Wooster Group artists and associates at The Performing Garage. With your help, we can keep the Institute, now in its 18th year, free of charge.
We founded the Institute to serve students who otherwise would have difficulty accessing arts programs. We immerse them in a group creative process through which they learn to develop texts and gain production experience. This summer we’ll be reading Studs Terkel’s Working: People Talk About What They Do All Day and How They Feel About What They Do – and taking our cues for movement from Emily Post’s Etiquette: Manners for a New World.
One of the great strengths of our program is that students are invited to return every year until they graduate high school, with some of the alumni returning after high school as paid mentors. In this way we hope to usher in a new generation of artists and keep the theater community going strong.
This year’s Institute will take place from July 6th – 25th with free public performances on July 24th & 25th at 7PM.
Your generous help is essential to our hosting another remarkable Summer Institute. Make a donation now!
