Summer Institute

Each summer The Wooster Group conducts a free, three-week performance workshop for teenagers in the public school system. Directed by Wooster Group member Kate Valk and Ariana Smart Truman, the workshop is organized around a selected text and daily visits by guest artists in performance, movement, writing, and video.

During the first two weeks, each day includes a session led by a guest artist in addition to regular movement training. Students are individually mentored by Wooster Group associates and Summer Institute alumni who participate in all exercises. The third week is spent shaping the material generated with the guest artists into a performance for supporters, friends, and family.
